The brainchild of independent beer publication The Crafty Pint, this sudsy celebration dishes up Australian firsts, experimental concoctions, masterclasses and meet-the-brewer sessions. Beer cocktails and boilermakers are also on the menu, with epic prizes up for grabs throughout the festival.
The concept is beautifully straightforward: each participating venue adopts a different region or country, dedicating their taps and fridges to beers from their chosen patch. These pubs and bars then host a smorgasbord of events including themed tap takeovers, beer dinners, pairing sessions, trivia nights, run clubs and collaboration launches.
Now in its thirteenth year, Pint of Origin 2025 will showcase the most comprehensive collection of beers at any single festival. The event champions exceptional drops from near and far – some brewed in the very building they’re being served, others journeying almost 17,000km to reach your glass.
Beer enthusiasts can expect around 800 different brews from more than 200 breweries to hit taps across the city during the ten-day hop-fest. From the crisp lagers of Scandinavia at Beermash to the innovative craft creations of Japan and Korea at Benchwarmer, the festival offers a global beer tour without leaving Melbourne’s streets.
“The local beer and hospitality industries continue to struggle in the face of ongoing economic challenges and the cost-of-living crisis, making festivals like Pint of Origin are a great way of getting behind venues and breweries while having fun,” says James Smith, Crafty Pint Founder and Creator of the Pint of Origin Festival.
The festival has carved out specialty hubs too – Captain Melville will serve as Beer Cocktail HQ, while whisky lovers can head to Whisky & Alement for the Boilermaker Hub where perfect pairings of whisky and beer await.
Local regions get plenty of love, with venues like Bridge Road Brunswick showcasing Regional Victoria, while Freddie Wimpoles and Heartbreaker Bar split Melbourne’s own brewing scene north and south of the Yarra.
This year’s lineup spans the beer spectrum, with dedicated venues for every Australian state and territory, plus international hotspots including the UK, USA, Canada, Continental Europe and New Zealand.
