Electric Kool-Aid is an unmissable February weekend for music and brewski enthusiasts

words by kaya martin

Electric Kool-Aid is taking place on the weekend of February 24 to 26 at Bodriggy Brewery.

What if we told you that there’s a mythical party where everything revolves around the relationship between music around beer? Where some of the finest music makers and beer creators from across the land gather to share the secrets of their craft and pay tribute to the golden elixir?

Well guess what: there is, and it’s only a few short weeks away. Hosted by Abbostford’s Bodriggy Brewery, Electric Kool-Aid is going down from February 24 to 26.

Electric Kool-Aid

  • Friday February 24 – Free entry until 6pm. Crown Ruler are presenting the Friday night, with a mixture of live hip hop, rnb, soul, funk, disco and a range of DJs who will be putting their stamp on the night, keeping you moving until the party wraps up at 1am.
  • Saturday February 25 – Free entry until 4pm. Ticketed workshops, tastings, tours and more will take place throughout the day, hosted by the Bodriggy Brewery and guest brewers. From 4pm, two stages across the Brewpub will host five bands playing afro, punk, soul and rock — with DJs playing til late
  • Sunday February 26 – Free entry all day. Neighbours Fight Night Records will be hosting a bunch of blues bands while guests indulge in paddle specials to finish off the last of the kegs.

The Bodriggy Brewery, once a mechanic shop, is now a full-scale flavour destination. It’s especially known for its eclectic and experimental tastes, including monthly hazy sours, the Utroptia pale ale, the Staunch pilsner and the Fuzzy Dance Explosion sour ale.

At the Electric Kool-Aid weekender, the Bodriggy crew is inviting 15 top Australian breweries to help them celebrate their favourite beverage and drink their way through the last of the summer stock. With 28 bands and DJs scheduled across the weekend, it’s shaping up to be one raucous party.

The event will feature exclusive beers, live music curated by Crown Ruler, dance sessions, and craft beer workshops. Following the success of their popular Lunaverse event, the team has planned an array of workshops and sensory events to really immerse guests into the world of craft beer. Spots are limited, so keep your eyes on the event page to make sure you secure yours.

Hobby brewers are invited to learn some new tricks, and hobby drinkers can try a few rare sips while jamming out to whoever’s tearing up the stage. Kegs aren’t expected to last, so get in quick and keep your eyes peeled for what you want to try.

“We’re super excited to present this third iteration of Electric Kool Aid,” the event’s music director, Dr Condiments said. “Working with the diverse quality Crown Ruler artists brings to the table on Friday has been excellent. Same with Fight Night Records on the Sunday.

“I’ve also been wanting to book Gordon Koang and his band to play well before COVID. Now with the inclusion of DJ / producers that have recently returned to our city: DJ Fantastic Man, Kate Miller and Vanessa Worm, we’ve lucked out.”
