Live at The Counts: Gianni Marinucci Nonet

Join us for a wonderful night of jazz featuring lush instrumentation, incredible original arrangements and smooth vocals live at The Count’s!

In 1947, trumpeter Miles Davis, saxophonist Gerry Mulligan and composer Gil Evans recorded the classic nonet album, The Birth Of The Cool. The use of unusual instrumentation (French horn and tuba), and unique original arrangements created a lush sound never heard before.

Deeply inspired by the work, Melbourne trumpeter Gianni Marinucci formed his own nonet (a group of nine musicians) for a performance at the Melbourne International Festival of Brass in 2006. After the success of that concert, the Gianni Marinucci Nonet has gone on to delight audiences with its performances of classic repertoire from the life of Miles Davis as well as playing their own music, written by members of the group. This special performance features the incredible Emma Gilmartin on vocals.
