Have your say on Melbourne's hottest bands at The Melbourne District Music Awards (humorously abbreviated as the MDMAs)
The sheer talent of Melbourne’s music scene will be voted upon at the Melbourne District Music Awards (MDMAs), a people’s choice awards night celebrating local independent artists right here in Melbourne. Taking place at the Gasometer on the 16th of November, this event will display Melbourne’s best musicians, promoting some homegrown talent while bulking out your Spotify playlists with some fresh new tunes to listen to.
Keep up with the latest music news, features, festivals, interviews and reviews here.
Hosted by the jovial indie-rockers Verbrasco, the event will be held from 1 pm to 5 pm. “As the name suggests, the MDMAs won’t be a boring, serious event. The focus will be on the patrons having a great time,” the event’s promotional poster states. Tickets will be available on the 20th of October, and those who vote will receive discounted tickets.
Voting categories
- Song of the year
- Album/EP of the year
- Music video of the year
Three public awards will be voted upon, and then on October 21st, nominees will be announced and another round of voting will take place. Be sure to vote for those here! The winners of each category will take home a juicy $250. Two additional awards will take place on the night – one award will be chosen by bands, and another decided upon by the attending audience.
This Melbourne District Music Awards isn’t only for awards though, as there’ll be plenty of other entertainment options occurring throughout the event.
“There will be live bands… free food, secret beer garden performances, competitions, games, funny projected visuals, guests hosts and an audience that is excited and enthusiastic to be apart of this event.”
“Our mission is to encourage, award and celebrate real local independent artists as well as to empower and strengthen the community that is so crucial to the Melbourne music scene.”
