Level 42 are heading to Australia for the first time, bringing World Machine and four decades of hits to five cities in January 2027.
After more than 40 years of slapping bass and stacking hits, Level 42 are finally crossing the equator. The British jazz-funk outfit have announced their first ever Australian tour, hitting five cities in January 2027.
The run of shows will see Mark King and co. perform tracks from their landmark 1985 album World Machine alongside a greatest hits set. It marks the first time Australian audiences have had the chance to catch the group live on home soil – a fact that feels almost absurd given their four-decade career and reported 30 million-plus album sales worldwide.

World Machine was the record that broke Level 42 internationally. Released in October 1985, it pushed the band from UK favourites into global territory off the back of the single Something About You. The album fused jazz-funk chops with pop hooks and a progressive streak that set it apart from most of what was coming out of the mid-80s. It peaked at number three on the UK albums chart and spent 72 weeks on the chart – the kind of longevity that doesn’t happen by accident.
The band have racked up 18 UK top 40 singles across their career, with tracks like Lessons in Love, Running in the Family, Hot Water and Love Games becoming staples of the era. King’s slap bass technique became one of the most recognisable sounds in pop, and the group built a reputation as a formidable live act to match their studio output.
