Legion Music Fest subscribers were alerted to the news this afternoon in an email from the organisers, which read:
“The organizers wish to thank all Aussie metal fans for their continued support of the Legion project over the last 10 months. Due to a number of business considerations, we have made the decision to not proceed with the proposed launch of Legion Music Fest in January 2017.”
The festival was originally announced less than 24 hours after the cancellation of Soundwave 2016, with LA band Devil You Know’s drummer John Sankey revealing plans for a crowd-funded rock event to fill the void.
In January 2016, Sankey told Beat’s sister publication The BRAG: “If we can make this happen this year, it’s something we’d make bigger and keep bringing it back!”
However, with the festival quickly failing to meet its lofty $3.275 million Pozible target, its future became uncertain. In March, the festival had been confirmed for a January 2017 debut with a lineup featuring Lordi, DevilDriver, Devil You Know, Darkest Hour, Front Line Assembly and more.
Rumours swelled around the industry that DevilDriver had pulled out of any talks to appear, and now it seems the festival will remain a pipe dream.
