Kicking off tomorrow, Leaps and Bounds’ extended program showcases Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, African and LGBTQIA+ musicians.
Bringing even more live music and special events to local venues and other unique settings across the City of Yarra, Leaps and Bounds + BEYOND has been extended to run for a whole month. Taking place from June 24 until July 24, the + BEYOND program is dedicated to instrumental artists working in experimental, contemporary and classical repertoire and will showcase Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, African and LGBTQIA+ musicians.

Thanks to a funding boost from the State Government’s On the Road Again fund, Leaps and Bounds + BEYOND is bringing even more live music and special events to local venues and other unique settings across the City of Yarra. With highlights of the extended program including Deborah Cheetham AO’s mesmerising The Rivers Sing: Reprise on the banks of the Birrarung and Ensemble Dutala, Australia’s first Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander chamber ensemble.

Also added to the program is Homophonic!, a celebration of classical music by queer composers. Explore radical music with Liquid Architecture: Ritual Community Music, be amazed by virtuosic renditions of Liszt with Rhythm and Line, experience new music and art from Black, Indigenous and creatives of colour with Blackout Experience and join Afrosphere for a night of body-moving music.
Named after the iconic and beloved Paul Kelly song, Leaps and Bounds showcases home grown talent and the music venues across the City of Yarra that fosters up and coming artists. As venue-focused festival, Leaps and Bounds provides support to businesses and local artists with a wide variety of gigs to suit all age groups and every budget (including many free shows), with gigs ranging from electronic to hip hop and jazz to rock.
