Australian Jousting Championship brings medieval mayhem to Ballarat's Kryal Castle across two epic days.

Medieval mayhem comes to Victoria this weekend as the Australian Jousting Championship returns to Kryal Castle. Running across two days, the tournament promises bone-shaking action as Australia’s top knights compete in full steel armour.

Each competitor will don replica medieval armour weighing up to 40kg while wielding three-metre wooden lances in true-to-history combat.

Kryal Castle victory goes to whoever breaks the most lances on their opponent’s shield during these high-impact clashes. Beyond the main tournament, there’s also authentic medieval merchants, archery displays, and kids activities including face painting, potion making, and dragon meet and greets.

  • When: Saturday 13 – Sunday 14 September

Reigning champion and Ballarat local Renae Marisma faces fierce competition from a stellar lineup including former world champion Phillip Leitch, rising star Sienna Poynton, and three-time Tarago champion Andrew McKinnon.

Thousands are expected through Kryal Castle gates for this spectacular weekend of medieval entertainment. Australia’s jousting champion will be crowned immediately after Sunday’s final round, marking the culmination of what promises to be an epic tournament.

This authentic medieval experience follows historical rules and traditions, making it as close to the real thing as modern safety allows. Competitors undergo years of dedicated training to master the precision and strength required for this demanding sport. With thunderous hooves and splintering lances, this weekend promises to transport Kryal Castle visitors straight back to the age of chivalry.
