We’re thrilled to announce a very special debut performance from Australian art-wave luminary Karen Marks, taking place on Friday 28 April 2023 at Melbourne Town Hall.
This is a one-off, premiere performance from an extraordinary Australian underground icon, and is absolutely not to be missed. Karen will be joined on the night by her band, which features producer and synth titan Ash Wednesday (Grand Organ, electronics), Adam Learner (bass; Blue Ruin), Charlie Owen (guitar; Beast of Bourbon), Mal Kilpatrick (synth; Human Backs) and Rick Hawkins (electronic drums; Grasshole).
Four decades since its domestic release, Karen Marks’ 1981 single Cold Café has finally reaped its deserved international credit to become one of Australia’s most recognised minimal wave recordings. Her discography was officially reissued by Efficient Space in 2019, amassing over a million streams and multiple sold out vinyl pressings worldwide, while finding fans in Fever Ray, Jarvis Cocker, Deerhunter and Dakota Johnson.
