Lol.
Weird rock legends Devo have just jumped into the news space, for a reason you would never expect. Have they announced a new record? No. What about a new song? Nope. Are they playing a live stream set? Nada.
The Akron four-piece are releasing an extension of their iconic ‘energy dome’ hats as face shields because you’ve got to #staysafe out there. In the fight against the coronavirus, can Devo whip it? We’ll have to wait and see, but at least they’re playing their part. The face shields come alongside a range of face masks, new tees and the standalone ‘energy dome’ hat if you’re so inclined.
In a statement, Devo co-founder Jerry Casale spoke of the misconceptions surrounding the ‘energy dome’.
“It’s the 40th anniversary of DEVO’s Energy Dome — a DEVO icon that is often as misunderstood as the band itself. Although they have been mistaken for flower pots, dog bowls, car urinals, lampshades, and eventually relegated specifically for the use at holiday parties, these holy totems were actually designed with a more important purpose in mind,” the statement said.
“It was designed according to the ancient ziggurat mound proportions used in votive worship. Like the mounds, it collects energy and recirculates it.
“In this case, the Dome collects energy that escapes from the crown of the human head and pushes it back into the medulla oblongata for increased mental energy.”
