Josie Long – Romance and Adventure

josie.jpg

Her overwhelming positivity and relentless energy belie a mature, thoughtful and self aware performer. While outwardly shambolically charming, she deftly manoeuvres around the “cute girl” trope.

Long could quite capably present a show of anecdotes about relationships, but as she spells out very early on, Romance and Adventure contains little to do with either. The show is about her awakening to social justice issues and her feelings of impotence in the face of overwhelming societal odds. Not traditional fodder for easy laughs.

As heavy as that may sound, she makes light work of some pretty challenging questions and tears through her witty and thought provoking material at a cracking pace, delivering an uplifting message in hilarious fashion.

Unafraid to question her own credentials or over value her opinion, Long plunges headlong into her case and emerges an intelligent and acutely perceptive, not to mention exceptionally funny, young comic.
