Comedian John Glover reads his own eulogy at this Melbourne International Comedy Festival show.

It’s human nature to wonder what the world might look like when we’re no longer here. To picture the funeral, with hundreds of stylishly black-clad mourners weeping in an old-timey gothic church. To theorize what might be said about us in our honour.

With John Glover Must Die, the comedian is doing just that. In his debut comedy hour, he pictures his life in the past tense and muses upon his regrets, including a misplaced dedication to religion, auditioning for Big Brother and not hitting on enough of his straight friends. He’ll be bringing the show to Melbourne’s Speakeasy Theatre from March 29 to April 11.

His affable style of stand-up, described as “sassy yet sweet, chaotic-neutral, and just the right amount of bitchy”, sheds light on his unusual stories, breaking down barriers in the audience and allowing them to feel a bit more comfortable with their own flawed histories.

Originally from Melbourne, Glover got his chops in the Sydney scene, emceeing comedy nights and producing two of his own – the monthly semipro club Hot Box Comedy in 2021 and a weekly curated open mic Sandbox Comedy in 2022. He was also a Raw Comedy state finalist for NSW for two years in a row, in 2022 and 2023.

This will be the first time the comedian brings John Glover Must Die to Melbourne following a sold-out run at the Sydney Fringe Comedy Festival in 2022.
