JINYU unveils her soul-pop ode to growth and connection with new single Trees on 12 August.
Blending alt-pop, R&B and neo-soul with ethereal calm, Trees expands JINYU’s lush sonic universe through jangly electric guitar lines, deep 808 bass and her signature silky vocal tone. The track showcases an ear-worm hook and soaring harmonies that float and weave through the composition like wind through leaves.
JINYU collaborated with acclaimed Melbourne-based musician and producer Jake Amy on the new release. Amy is a celebrated force in Australia’s jazz, neo-soul and R&B scenes who has performed with Kaiit, Alexander Flood, Bumpy, Miss Kaninna and Emma Volard, bringing his expertise to create a sound world that is both vibrant and introspective.

Named by her mother after the Chinese words for gold and jade, JINYU continues drawing on cultural symbolism and natural imagery to tell deeply human stories. Where her previous single Surf reflected surrender and change, Trees offers a delicate reflection on growth, patience and love through nature metaphors.
“I kept thinking about how alike we are to trees,” says JINYU. “How we age, shed, grow again. How we move through time gently and still find beauty in our wrinkles, in our rings. This song became a kind of love story to the self — to the parts of us that endure, adapt, and continue offering love in hard times.”
JINYU’s visual identity draws inspiration from fairytale nomadism, nature and 90s/Y2K soul aesthetics. Her approach invites listeners into more than just sound, offering a slow, sacred space to feel, remember and breathe through her music.
The single positions JINYU alongside artists like Cleo Sol, Olivia Dean, Solange, Raveena, Snoh Aalegra and Amaria in the contemporary soul-pop landscape. Trees will be available to stream on all major platforms, continuing JINYU’s exploration of personal growth through natural metaphors and lush production.
