Melbourne Writers Festival has accrued a serious lineup of talent for a special series reflecting on the connection between music and literature for this year’s festival, themed ‘A Matter of Life and Death’.
Featuring the likes of Paul Kelly showcasing his favourite poems by setting them to music in Other People’s Words to Jimmy Barnes rifling through his collection of 7″ records as part of his Musical Memory, there will be a huge range of performances connecting the artforms of music and literature, drawing from the knowledge and experience of some of music’s greatest songwriters.
Amongst the huge lineup, you’ll also find US singer-songwriter Neko Case hosting an intimate Book Club as well as participating in a discussion titled The Book That Made Me a Feminist as well as Sally Seltmann and Myf Warhurst hosting a talk covering everything from the connection between love and the creative process to women in the arts.
Additionally, The Duets will see Australian musicians teaming up in pairs for live-streamed performances and conversations about their creative processes, including teams such as Paul Dempsey and Julia Jacklin, Sarah Blasko and Ryan Downey, Jen Cloher and Miss Blanks, and many more.
