“The show is about coming to Melbourne. The catalyst for coming, how we coped when we got here, living in my wife’s mum’s house in bunk beds and then trying to scratch all of our possessions together. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do. I hope people appreciate or get something from it. This is going to be a show for Melbournians about their city from a foreigner’s point of view.”
“I’ll be talking about nearly getting arrested twice by the police for jay-walking and not wearing a helmet on my bicycle. My son being pecked on the head by a magpie, Phillip Island penguins, a punch-on that I saw…”
Jeff Green is creating a show that caters accurately and directly toward his target audience.“Too often, if you go and see an international comedian, what you generally get is a little bit of cross-references to some of the things they’ve heard about, but don’t really understand and not really going into it in any kind of depth. And then they basically just use additional material from London, or New York or wherever they’ve come from. And I know this because I’ve done it myself. This is the first time I really wanted to apply some vigor to comedy, and for it just to be about Victoria.”
Jeff has several key topics that people generally just seem like you’re not able to talk about in Melbourne. “My current list is AFL Football, ACDC and the penguins. They really like the penguins. I don’t know why. Melbournians have taken them to their heart, and you can’t slag them off.”
