Scientist (Hopeton Overton Brown) began his career in Kingston, Jamaica in the 1970s working with dub pioneer King Tubby, where he developed his own mixing philosophy. In the early 1980s he was principal engineer at Channel One and Tuff Gong Studio, where he rose to prominence with his extravagant mixing style, wild album titles and distinctive cover artworks.

An innovator in the fields of electronics, amplification and studio techniques, his work continues to influence dub, remix and music culture globally. In recent years he has remixed artists such as Khruangbin, Jack Johnson, Sublime and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.
