An instrumental progressive metal band hailing from Washington, D.C, Animals As Leaders is composed of Tosin Abasi, Matt Garstka and Javier Reyes. Their first self-titled album was released in 2009 to critical acclaim. After being nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance at the 52nd Grammy Awards, they were launched into widespread success. Animals As Leaders’ second album, Weightless, was released in 2011 and debuted at number 11 on the Billboard 200 chart in the United States.

They’re known for their idiosyncratic approach to music making, delighting fans of metal and jazz alike. Fusing metal, jazz and electronic music to create a truly unique sound, their pummelling grooves and soaring riffs from eight stringed guitars are not to be missed. Animals As Leaders provide all the emotive power without need for vocals through the group’s complex and intricate instrumental compositions.

It all goes down at 170 Russell on April 19. Tickets are on sale now, grab them by heading here.
