The multi-purpose venue is a combination of a café, bar, retail space and gallery rounded out with an evolving theme. The first three months will focus on and celebrate the culture of East African countries including Ethiopia, Eritrea and Sudan, hosting a calendar of events including live music, comedy shows, spoken word performances, fashion shows and film nights throughout the year.
“There are so many people in the African Australian community who are doing amazing things,” said 26-year-old founder Saba Alemayoh. “Afro Hub is a platform for them to showcase their creative talents to a wider audience.”
During the first three months, the café section of Afro Hub will offer East African-inspired breakfast, lunch and dinner developed by Tekebash Gebre of Saba’s Ethiopian Restaurant, before moving into South African food and culture.
