Footscray Community Arts Centre continues to showcase Indigenous artists!
For the last year, Footscray Community Arts Centre (FCAC) has been shining the light on the talent of Indigenous artists of Melbourne’s West and will continue to do so in 2011.
Challenging the stereotypes of what it means to be Indigenous in a contemporary urban context, and celebrating the unique culture of the area, FCAC’s Indigenous Cultural Program has featured workshops, exhibitions, talks and performances by some of Australia’s best known and still emerging Indigenous artists including Aunty Margy Tang, Paola Balla, Bindi Cole, Jacob Boehme, Frank Yamma, Bart Willoughby, Mia Stanford, and siblings Lisa Maza and Rachael Maza Long.
This year the FCAC’s Indigenous Cultural Program will continue with Blak Side Story (an interactive digital quilt which will profile the people and stories of the Indigenous community of Melbourne’s West), Deadly Funny Comedy Workshops, and the world premier of Mia Stanford’s new one woman comedy show UNCLASSIFIABLE.
Also taking up residence at FCAC this year is Idja – Victorian’s first Indigenous dance theatre performance company and training academy.
