How Will I Know? is a profound reflection on the journey of coming-of-age, serenading listeners with a soothing blend of introspective lyrics and captivating melodies. It’s a call for all souls wandering in the wilderness of growing up to connect, to understand that it’s okay not to have all the answers.
The new track takes its place as Riley’s first solo release of the year, following a fantastic collaboration with Maddy May titled Habit and a remarkable cover of Adrian Lux’s Teenage Crime. The trio of singles follows a spectacular 2022, where Riley’s debut album, The Water & The Rough, was unveiled. This album, crafted over two years and across three cities, expertly weaves warm, melodious compositions with quietly introspective lyrics.
Speaking about his new track, Riley shares, “Even as an adult, I always feel like I’m in this constant state of figuring things out. Big decisions and big changes in life have always been something I struggle with, and we never truly know what lies ahead. As much as I struggle with it, there’s also an element of excitement in the unknown, and this song and the production tries to capture that feeling. When you’re a kid, you think your parents have their act together, but that illusion fades away as you grow up and realise, they were probably just as clueless as you were.”
Riley Pearce’s melodious journey began when he was inspired by his dad’s cover bands to pick up the guitar. At just 17, he was already serenading audiences at local farmer’s markets with Dire Straits and Jack Johnson covers, sprinkled with his own original compositions. Since the release of his debut single in 2016, Riley has poured his heart into 59 songs, including six EPs and his debut album, The Water & The Rough, which emerged in 2022. His music has resonated across the globe, amassing over 75 million streams worldwide.
In recognition of his immense talent, Riley received the WAM Song of the Year award in 2017 and 2019. His single Bottle It Up earned an Honourable Mention in the Folk/Singer-Songwriter category at the 2021 International Songwriting Competition (ISC). Riley’s music has also graced the soundtracks of international TV shows such as Netflix’s Love Victor and US TV shows Shameless and Shadowhunters.
