This unique exhibition is an innovative art and storytelling project with artwork by leading artists from the Kimberley region of Western Australia, alongside digital presentations of their stories about life in the Kimberley cattle industry.
Developed over a four-year period, the exhibition showcases works by thirteen Kimberley based artists including, Alan Griffiths, Daisy Andrews, Freddie Timms, Gordon Barunga, and Mabel Juli.
The digital stories chronicle a period in Australian history when Aboriginal people – who had contributed to the growth of an industry for almost one hundred years – were forced from their land and could only maintain their culture through memory, shared narratives and art.
The deeply personal stories of the Aboriginal artists’ lives are complex, funny, and at times tragic and surprising. The interviews can be watched in tablet form alongside original paintings or as a larger projection.
