Adelaide’s new winter music and arts festival, Illuminate Adelaide, has lifted the lid on its inaugural lineup. Transforming laneways, venues and spaces across the city, the festival will feature discussions, installations, dance, live music, and much more.

Kicking off on July 16, Illuminate Adelaide has revealed its MAAD (Music & Art After Dark) and KINARA programs.
MAAD is set to go down on the closing weekend of the festival across various locations, featuring sets from Soju Gang, DyspOra, HTRK, DJ Plead, MY DISCO, Air Max ’97, Dem Mob, The Yorke Band, MoZzi, Aviva Endean, and more.
They join previously announced headline act, The Avalanches, who, with support from Electric Fields, will perform their iconic debut album Since I Left You alongside the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra on Friday July 30. The next night, The Avalanches will close Illuminate with a special DJ set as part of the MAAD program.
The KINARA program, named after the Pintupi word for ‘moon’, will celebrate First Nations culture and artists beneath a full moon on Saturday July 24.
Led by a lineup of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, KINARA will take over the TANDANYA National Aboriginal Cultural Institute with live music, installations, and sensory works.
The KINARA music program will share artists with the MAAD program, including Dem Mob, The Yorke Band, and MoZzi, as well as welcoming Kahl Wallis, Tilly Tjala Thomas with CASM Band, Katie Aspel, GypZ X SVVLO, and DJ Goon.
Complementing the music lineup, commissioned multi-sensory audiovisual pieces will envelop TANDANYA while a large-scale sand drawing by Pintupi artists will carpet the Main Gallery floor.
Other festival highlights include City Lights, bringing over 40 large-scale installations, projections and immersive works to three precincts; a virtual reality experience titled Thin Ice highlighting the impact of climate change; and Light Cycles, an immersive work by Canada’s Moment Factory which is set to take over a near two kilometre stretch within the Adelaide Botanic Gardens.
