How can you not love Spilt Milk?

Spilt Milk set times 2023

There was nothing to cry over at Spilt Milk: quite the opposite, not even rain and cold could spoil the bountiful goodness on offer.

With the likes of Post Malone, Dom Dolla, Aitch, Peach PRC, Latto, Jessie Murph and more on the stacked one-day lineup, how could you not enjoy the biggest thing to hit Ballarat since the gold rush!

It was hit after hit for the entire day, a momentous build-up that culminated in Posty, Dom Dolla and Mincy battling it out across three packed stages for final bragging rights, which it must be said, was shared fairly equally (no mean feat by Mincy to draw the crowd she did to the third stage).

Keep up with the latest music news, features, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

At this stage we have to reserve special mention for Post Malone, undoubtedly the nicest fella in hip hop, who may have stopped his show four times to ensure people in the crowd were alright but still enraptured the biggest audience of the night with such evocative, powerfully-emotional performances and pyrotechnics to match. His live performances are nothing short of electrifying spectacles that leave audiences in a kind of emotional awe. Known for his unique blend of hip-hop, pop, and rock – and boy, can he rock – Post Malone brings an infectious energy to the stage that captivates fans from the moment he steps into the spotlight. His concerts are a kaleidoscope of musical genres – his backing chamber string section enforced this.

One of the defining features of a Post Malone live show is the raw emotion he pours into each song. Whether he’s belting out a soulful ballad or delivering rapid-fire verses, there’s a genuine and palpable passion that resonates with the crowd. It capped off a remarkable day in a wonderful location – Victoria Park may have verged on the muddy at times, but it’s a stunningly green and welcoming venue for a festival, not to mention – it’s highly accessible and quick to enter and exit, with so much parking.

Another highlight was Lime Cordiale, their live performances are a dynamic explosion of indie-pop brilliance that put a smile on every face. The local favourites brought infectious energy and a carefree spirit to the stage. The chemistry between brothers Oli and Louis Leimbach is palpable, creating an engaging synergy that reverberates through the crowd. Likewise, their setlist was a rollercoaster of catchy hooks, soulful melodies, and funky rhythms that keep fans dancing and singing along.

Our under-the-radar highlight was Lastlings, who execute their effortlessly cool, sultry electronica to perfection, and in perfect contrast, Latto – a high-octane fusion of confidence, charisma, and unapologetic rap prowess. The Atlanta-based rapper commands the stage with a magnetic presence, delivering her rapid-fire verses with precision and attitude and plenty of raw sexuality.

Spilt Milk ticks so many boxes, we can’t wait for it to become an annual festival staple. Given the record sell-out, we shant be waiting in vein.
