Hot Potato Band

How would you describe the atmosphere and sound of Hot Potato Band? We’ve worked hard as a group creating the atmosphere of a New Orleans-style street band and injecting it with ska, pop, funk, and world influences. All of these genres mixed with the fun and antics of a street performance has always set the stage and our audiences for a great time.

How did your experience as street performers shape the way you perform? We strive to break those barriers that divide an audience from the band. In a lot of ways we play off the energy and antics of the crowd and match it with our crazy behavior. You can expect some of us to end up right next to you, singing or dancing with you.

How did you find the process of capturing your live sound on record? I think it’s always very tough to recreate that live performance, however we were very conscious of the album’s message when recording it, and making that just as much of a priority.

You’ll be performing around Australia throughout February and March. What are you most looking forward to experiencing while on the road? We’re very much looking forward to seeing people we have met along the way, drinking coffee from our regular spots, but even more excited to be reaching some new places like Adelaide, far north Queensland and rural areas throughout NSW.

What do you love to see at a show? The range of ages. The oldest attendee we had at a show was 85.
