As part of their Cellophane Tour, Australian rock duo Holy Holy otherwise known as Timothy Carroll and Oscar Dawson performed at the Forum last week.
Along with a full band and some special guests, Holy Holy made for a night of unbridled musical joy.
It began with precious Gold Coast treasures Eliza & The Delusionals bringing vibrant electric guitars and emotional vocal performances to the stage, resulting in a beautiful fiesta of teenage indie rock. With bops like Make It Feel Like The Garden, Halloween and a cover of Phoebe Bridgers’ Motion Sickness amongst the setlist, the trio certainly left the crowd filled with smiles and wanting more.

By the time it was the main show, the band was welcomed by a spirited and bouncy crowd. Tim, Carroll and the rest of the band answered that enthusiasm with the exuberant opener Send My Regards. The energy from both the band and the audience did not lose momentum for one bit, as they kept on dancing to both the soft ballads and the strong pop-rock grooves throughout the whole set.
Among the highlights was the song Cellophane which invited the crowd for a harmonious sing-along of the ending chorus. Other tried and tested crowd favourites such as Maybe You Know, Faces and True Lovers were also part of the setlist. Combining art rock, indie pop, sentimental lyrics as well as a lively stage presence, Holy Holy hit fans with an evening they will reminisce forever.
The night was also met with special guests. Most prominently, Lily from Clews was there for multiple songs, occasionally providing her angelic vocals as a backup to Tim’s melodies and of course to sing their collaboration track The Aftergone. Another pleasant addition to the evening was Thatboykwame who came up the stage to sing their ecstatic pop banger Messed Up. As the Australian rapper sang his hooks simultaneously with the beat drops, the whole theatre erupted with euphoria.
When the band left the stage and the lights were cut, it seemed that the last note had already been played. However, cheers from the crowd grew louder and louder as they chanted for even more songs to be played. Their demands were met with a marvelous extended encore from the band which included Chloe Wilson from Sumner joining them to perform a vigorous composition of the song Ready, in which Tim decided to crowdsurf towards the end.
The night was closed with Teach Me About Dying which ceremoniously had the people singing along at their highest level of excitement. Eliza, Lily and Chloe joined the band for one last time as they closed the set with a beautiful and wholesome coming together of artists beneath the starlit ceilings of the Forum.
