If you haven’t yet heard of Perth emcee Gamirez, consider this your introduction. Proving to be one of the country’s hottest up-and-coming rappers, Gamirez has an undeniable talent for writing rhymes with slick beats and catchy hooks that will leave a lasting impression. Earlier this year the rapper released the successful trap-influenced banger Alright and bouncy hard-hitting single Tuesday. He has just released his latest hit NaNa, an afrobeat-inspired anthem that showcases the artist’s sublime lyricism and smooth vocals. Gamirez melds global sounds and musical genres to create memorable tracks with his inimitable style. Make sure to check out his debut EP April 94. Gamirez is set to release a ton of new music over the coming months with a potential album in the works.

Brisbane-based rapper Kayla Truth is the newest hip hop queen to step onto the scene. With her pop-infused rap and badass attitude, her latest single Wave is a sassy banger bound to get you moving. Truth couples raw, unapologetically honest rhymes with pop beats and an edgy style, belting out catchy hip hop tunes that are set to dominate the charts. She crafted her eclectic sound through years of practice, releasing her very first single Oh Diva Me back in 2013. Truth has rapped with hip hop crews Poetic Murriz and the Impossible Odds. She previously opened for international sensations TLC, Kid Ink, Naughty By Nature and B.O.B and shows no signs of slowing down.

At only 16 years of age, rising rap artist Vic August has released his debut EP Days In The West. With wavy synths, sleek vocals and gritty beats, the five-track EP is definitely worth a listen.It’s astounding to see such inherent talent and fiery passion from an ambitious young rapper, with August proving he has the ability to write impressive rhymes and experiment with a variety of musical styles. This future star has a compelling style and mature sound that sets him apart from his peers.

This month The Foreign Brothers and PBS 106.7FM are bringing round two of their high-energy hip hop showcase, after the first successful event earlier this year. Momentum Chapter 7: The Hip Hop Showcase has a huge lineup of artists that reflect the diversity of contemporary Australian hip hop, beat-making and free styling.
