Habibi Hafla returns to Section 8 this month for Palestine fundraiser

Words by Staff Writer

The beloved celebration of SWANA culture is back with an all-star local DJ lineup this April.

Habibi Hafla is taking over Section 8 for a massive day of community vibes in solidarity with Palestine.

The free event celebrates music, arts and culture from the SWANA (South West Asian and North African) region, bringing together some of Melbourne’s most respected selectors for a dancefloor with purpose. All funds raised will support PARA (Palestinian Australian Relief and Action), helping Palestinian migrants and refugees build fulfilling lives in Australia.

The day features a stacked lineup of local talent spinning genre-spanning sets throughout the open-air session.

Dance enthusiasts can look forward to sets from scene heavyweights including Charlie Villas, Future Roots, Hiphophoe, Mrs Wallace, and MzRizk across the six-hour takeover. The day also features a live performance from Cool Out Sun Soundsystem, who’ll bring their signature blend of Afro-future, Hip Hop and diasporic rhythms to the party.

The Habibi Hafla crew have built a reputation for creating inclusive, vibrant spaces that celebrate the rich cultural traditions of the SWANA region while fostering connection between communities in Naarm/Melbourne.

Dance in solidarity is the rallying cry for this special Sunday session, with QR codes placed around the venue directing punters to donation points and further information about PARA’s critical work supporting the Palestinian community.

Since its inception, Habibi Hafla has established itself as more than just a party – it’s a cultural movement bridging diverse communities through the universal language of music.

The April 20 takeover continues this tradition, offering a perfect opportunity to experience the energy of Habibi Hafla while supporting an important cause. Pack your dancing shoes, bring your mates, and prepare for a Sunday session with substance.
