Gumbuya World opens Victoria’s only water park with roaming wildlife

Gumbuya World
words by staff writer

Gumbuya World Theme Park opens Oasis Springs on 1 November, bringing water slides and wildlife together for summer.

Oasis Springs marks the start of splash season at Victoria’s only water theme park where you can slide, splash and meet wildlife all in one day. Gumbuya World opens eight water slides, 300 metres of Lazy River and Typhoon Island, where getting soaked is pretty much guaranteed. Major attractions include the Boomerango and Taipan waterslides, alongside heated rock pools and wave simulators.

Before Oasis Springs opens, Gumbuya World runs GumBOOya on 31 October across Melbourne Cup Weekend. Family-friendly Halloween includes pumpkin carving, spooky characters, trick-or-treat trails and rides on the TNT rollercoaster. Dress up for the chance to win a cabana with full service or a private group wildlife experience.

What sets Gumbuya World apart is the roaming wildlife encounters throughout the park. Wildlife rangers bring resident creatures to guests, with surprise visits as you queue for slides, relax by the wave pool or wander the grounds. Exhibits feature dingoes, lizards, crocodiles, koalas, aviaries and wallabies, incorporating a petting zoo. It’s something you won’t find at any other water park in Victoria, with wildlife ambassadors greeting families at the entrance.

Gumbuya World began life as a pheasant farm before transforming into a wildlife park in 1978, and has clearly evolved significantly since then.

In 2016, the park was sold to a group of investors, who transformed it into a full-scale theme park; now operating as Victoria’s only combined water park, theme park and wildlife sanctuary.

Gumbuya World has partnered with My Room Children’s Cancer Charity to provide respite to patients and families battling childhood cancer, demonstrating the park’s commitment to the community beyond just entertainment. Located at 2705 Princes Highway in Tynong North, Gumbuya World sits in the beautiful Australian bush, offering an escape from the city.

Oasis Springs covers different moods across the day. There are slides for adrenaline junkies, the Lazy River for those after something more chill, heated Rock Pools for unwinding between adventures, and Surf’s Up for wave chasers. Private cabanas come with optional food and drink service for groups wanting their own space.

While Oasis Springs takes centre stage this season, the Wildlife Trail, Outback Explorers and Oz Adventure run year-round. Project Zero launches riders 50 metres into the air, reaching 5Gs of force and speeds of 105 kilometres per hour, while TNT remains a park favourite for thrill-seekers. Animal lovers can meet more than 70 species, all just 50 minutes from the Melbourne CBD.
