The all-accessible event is part of the movement towards making the festival experience more inclusive.

We all love music festivals, but for some, the experience isn’t always easy. For those living with disabilities, going to a festival can be wrought with challenges.

Tibi Access, the team behind Taylor Swift’s recent Australian tour, is on a mission to make music festivals accessible to everyone. Their third annual Groove Tunes music festival, taking place at the Corner Hotel on May 18, not only has a killer lineup but is also equipped with features that allow it to be enjoyed by anyone and everyone.

Melbourne trio Big Words is this year’s headliner, bringing their infectious hooks and lively energy to the Corner Hotel stage. They’ll be joined by the electronic dance group Empress, offering up their huge six-piece sounds and three-part vocal harmonies.

Disabled artists also feature prominently on the lineup, including the Tibi Agency’s own femme fatale Mathilde Anne and soul artist and disability advocate Miss Emilia, a member of The Mamas, who uses her music to tell the story of being a chronically ill and disabled woman.

The PBS superstar Mz Rizk will also be making an appearance, spinning tracks deep into the night and keeping the party flowing.

“We have an incredibly diverse audience, and what brings everyone together is enjoying live music in an inclusive setting,” says Dina Bassile, Tibi Access and Groove Tunes Founder.

In terms of accessibility features, the event goes above and beyond to ensure every punter feels comfortable. As well as accessible signage, bathrooms, website features and an entrance and lift, there will also be an AUSLAN interpreter, a lowered bar for easy access, lyrics videos and subpack vibration vests.

Groove Tunes is not only a super fun night out, but also a pioneer in the accessibility space. They dream that soon, more events will follow suit and put the measures in place that make them accessible to fans of all ability levels.

Tickets to Groove Tunes on May 18 at the Corner Hotel are on sale now, with free entry for companion cardholders. Grab them here.
