Screen Australia Senior Development Manager Nerida Moore said of the announcement, “This round of development funding reflects the vibrancy of the story landscape in Australia with thrillers and romance, crime and comedies, sports dramas and musicals.
“We have projects from both seasoned storytellers and an exciting group of up-and-coming talents. And we are also seeing a greater mix of platforms from traditional features and high-end television to the ever-growing online drama and narrative VR spaces.”
Among the projects funded for development are Tasmanian-set gothic crime TV show The Gloaming – Vicki Madden’s follow-up to the award-winning Foxtel series The Kettering Incident, Romantic drama picture The Variations as well as Rodd Rathjen’s first feature-length project Buoyancy.
Other recipients include a feature adaption of Leah Purcell’s celebrated play The Drover’s Wife alongside the Sophie Hyde-directed Animals and online comedy series The Fair Way.
