Grammy award-winner PJ Morton announces Melbourne show

Grammy award-winning R&B and soul singer PJ Morton has announced that he will be coming to Australia next month, for two intimate shows in Melbourne and Sydney.

The news has come right after PJ Morton’s announcement that Watch the Sun, his new album, is slated to release at the end of April. The album will feature performances from Chronixx, JoJo & Mr. Talkbox, Stevie Wonder & Nas, Wale, Jill Scott & Alex Isley, El DeBarge, Zacardi Cortez, Gene Moore, Samoht, Tim Rogers and Darrel ‘MusiqCity’ Walls. The ten time Grammy nominee will be performing at Melbourne’s own Corner Hotel on Thursday May 28, playing tracks from his many self-released and self-produced albums.

PJ Morton has an extensive resume within the music world, including working as Maroon 5’s full-time keyboardist and running his own record label. The eclectic artist has collaborated across multiple genres and disciplines, with the likes of Erykah Badu, JoJo, Kirk Franklin, Lil Wayne, Rapsody, Stevie Wonder, Tyler Perry and Yebba.

He is also a strong community advocate, backing current initiatives for local Black-owned banks and the restoration of jazz legend Buddy Bolden’s house in his hometown of New Orleans. The Gospel According to PJ, his eighth self-released album, was the winner of the 2021 Grammy Award for Best Gospel Album.

Since his electrifying 2017 debut LP Gumbo, PJ Morton has blazed into the music industry with ten Grammy nominations and back-to-back wins for best Traditional R&B Performance, Album, R&B Song and Gospel Album.

He has also appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The Daily Show, The Tonight Show, TODAY Show, MSNBC, CNN, Inside the NBA, NPR’s Tiny Desk, COLORS, The Super Bowl Halftime Show, Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve and more.
