Get ready to go carb crazy: The annual garlic bread festival is back

Garlic Bread Festival
words by staff writer

Vampires beware!

Who doesn’t like garlic bread? When pillowy-crunchy bread, zingy garlic and creamy butter collide, it’s a match made in culinary heaven.

To give the iconic side its well-deserved moment in the spotlight, Welcome to Thornbury is running a Garlic Bread Festival on Saturday, August 31.

Garlic Bread Festival 2024

  • On August 31, Welcome to Thornbury will host a free celebration of garlicy goodness
  • They will be serving up different riffs on garlic bread as well as drinks and desserts
  • There will be a soup bar to accompany all of the garlic bread options

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around Melbourne here.

From noon until 8:30pm, the massive beer-garden-slash-food-truck-park will be dishing out amped-up iterations of the delicious dish. This will be the fourth year of the event, which has become a favourite for garlic lovers across the city.

This year’s food trucks include Mr Burger, Pasta Face, Via Gianlu, Love Schnak Langos, Woking Amazing, Chef Calamari and Garlic Essentials. There will also be a soup section, dishing up plenty of soups to dip your bready goodness into.

For the adventurous sippers, there will be a signature Garlic & Rosemary Martini up for grabs – your choice of vodka or gin!

While entertainment for the event hasn’t yet been specified, last year it included DJs on deck all afternoon, garlic bread bingo and a massive garlic bread eating relay competition.

Entry to the event is free for everyone and the turnout is expected to be big, so bookings are recommended for groups of six to 20 guests. Those with smaller parties should be fine to walk in. xMake sure you bring an appetite and prepare to smell like garlic for the rest of the week.
