The first album under the label launches this month.
For the past year, the unique and eccentric Cactus Room has given local bands the ideal space to rehearse and perform. When it was first envisioned, co-founder Dave Houston said they were aiming for a “DIY, punk garage-y vibe”. Now, the venue is taking the plunge and launching their very own record label, Cactus Records.
Melbourne garage-psych outfit Black Bats are the first to sign to the newly forged Cactus Records and will be kicking the label off with a bang when they launch their debut album at Cactus Room next week.
The Thornbury venue carries an ethos of authenticity and an unpretentious DIY-attitude – something that is hoped to be carried through onto Cactus Records.
