Name:

“Ryan Carson – vocals.”

Define your genre in five words or less:

“Epic soaring melodic alternative rock.”

Want to explain the origin of the band name, Further Earth? Is it the place just past middle Earth?

“Further Earth is a new world just beyond the Tolkien realm of Middle Earth. It comes from an experience we once shared where we visited that realm.”

How long have you been gigging and writing?

“The band have been together about a year and a half; we spent most of the early days writing but we have been gigging for around the past seven months. We only released our debut EP Kingdom at the end of January, so we’ve been touring around our home state of WA promoting that.”

Someone walks past as you guys are playing, they then go get a beer and tell their friend about you… what do they say?

“Just saw this band play inside they had a great vibe, uplifting soaring melodies, pumping bass driven grooves, sweet harmonies, pearly falsetto vocals and transcendent leads. I couldn’t help but watch the rest of their set! You guys should definitely check them out.”

What has been your favourite gig you’ve played to date?

“Favourite gig so far would have to be at our hometown EP launch show at The Amplifier Bar. The show sold out super early and the crowd was absolutely wild and extremely drunken, with heaps of singalongs and stage dives, all the key ingredients of a good show. We all came off stage on the biggest high; it was really a great experience.”

Which band would you most like to play a show with?

“Silverchair.”

What inspires or has influenced your music the most?

‘Probably growing up in Perth with its isolation from the rest of the world, and the fact that it is a hub of great musicians that all interact with one another. I would also say growing up on the coast near the ocean would have to be a big influence on us, as we’re often in awe of its beauty and often realise how small we are in the scheme of things.”

What do you think a band has to do these days to succeed?

“I think it comes down to four main things: developing a unique sound, writing good songs, touring and pulling it all off live.”

Do you have any record releases to date? What? Where can I get it?

“We have released our debut EP Kingdom: which was produced by Aria Award nominated producer Forrester Savell (Karnivool, Dead Letter Circus, The Butterfly Effect). It’s available for order at all JB HI FI stores through Firestarter Distribution and digitally through Itunes. Make sure you all go in to your local JB HI FI and order one in for us!”

Why should everyone come and see your band?

“I think people should come watch our band because we offer a powerful live experience that has to be seen to be experienced; we all believe in every song we play and every word we sing. For us playing our set is like an emotional journey of sorts and people are along with us for the ride.”

When are you playing live/releasing your album/EP/single/etc?

“We are doing a couple of shows in Melbourne this weekend: on Friday June 17 we are playing KILLER (Star Bar) south Melbourne and on Saturday June 18 we are playing BANG (Royal Melbourne Hotel) in the city. We will be returning to Melbourne in September as part of our major city national tour in support of our EP Kingdom be on the lookout.”

Famous last words?

“I did it my way.”
