NEWK: The John Newcombe Story

Fans of tennis and captivating stories will be enthralled by NEWK: The John Newcombe Story. Written by Kieran Carroll and brought to life by the talented Damian Callinan, this comedy-drama unfolds during Newk’s 70th birthday celebration in 2014.

From his humble beginnings as a schoolboy in the 1960s to his rise as the No. 1 tennis player in the world and his subsequent role as Davis Cup Captain, the play delves into Newcombe’s ambitious yet emotionally complex journey.

With elements of drama, comedy, and insights into off-court politics, NEWK: The John Newcombe Story promises a riveting 60-minute performance without intermission, scheduled for Saturday, May 4th, at 7:30 pm.

Directed by Leland Kean of Merrigong Theatre Company, the play delves into the challenges and joys of girlhood, exploring themes of crushes, fangirl moments, and the complexities of female friendships. Aimed at women, Dear Diary promises a heartfelt and relatable experience that resonates across generations.
