Sometimes you know the magic has gone before you're ready to admit it. Deaf Havana understand this feeling intimately.
The standout British alt-rockers have unveiled their deeply personal new single Car Crash.
The track serves as the latest preview of the band’s forthcoming seventh studio album We’re Never Getting Out, which arrives on 3 October via So Recordings and Civilians. The new material represents a significant turning point for frontman James Veck-Gilodi, who has spent recent years confronting personal challenges and rediscovering his artistic direction.
Car Crash emerges from a period of profound self-reflection for Veck-Gilodi, written during the final stages of his previous relationship. The song captures the complex emotions surrounding the recognition that a connection has lost its spark, addressing the difficult process of navigating relationship endings without causing unnecessary harm.

A creative rebirth
The creation of We’re Never Getting Out marked a pivotal moment in Deaf Havana’s career trajectory. During summer 2023, Veck-Gilodi made the bold decision to scrap an entire body of work he had been developing with his guitarist brother Matt Veck-Gilodi. Despite the material following a similar path to their 2022 release The Present Is A Foreign Land, Veck-Gilodi felt no emotional connection to the songs.
This creative reset coincided with significant personal changes. In summer 2024, Veck-Gilodi ended his marriage, acknowledging that he had been masking unhappiness for longer than he cared to admit. These life-altering decisions sparked a renewed sense of artistic purpose and personal agency.
The resulting album showcases Deaf Havana at their most vulnerable and honest. Despite the shimmering musical arrangements, the songs delve into themes of anxiety, heartbreak, and the difficult process of rebuilding one’s life after recognising that carefully constructed foundations are crumbling.
We’re Never Getting Out demonstrates Deaf Havana’s continued evolution within the alternative rock landscape. The album maintains the heart-on-sleeve directness that characterises British rock music while incorporating modern pop sensibilities and unconventional song structures.

The production brings together notable collaborators including Ross McDonald of The 1975 on bass and Freddie Sheed on drums. Sheed has previously worked with artists ranging from Lewis Capaldi to Take That, adding professional depth to the recording process.
The sonic palette draws inspiration from diverse sources, combining the passionate energy of Bruce Springsteen with the introspective unravelling found in Weezer’s catalogue, all filtered through the kaleidoscopic intimacy associated with Bon Iver’s approach to modern music-making.
Track listing reveals
The 12-track album opens with Life In Forward Motion and progresses through emotionally charged territory including Carousel, Break, and Lawn Tennis before reaching the central Car Crash. They’re an interesting band – it’s that willingness to confront difficult personal territory while maintaining their signature melodic sensibilities that positions We’re Never Getting Out as what we believe will be their most impactful release to date. The combination of raw emotional honesty with refined musical arrangements creates space for listeners experiencing similar life transitions.
