Four Fast Facts With Celeste Kate

1. Growing Up My key childhood musical memory was being fascinated by my parents’ vinyl player and collection. I could sit and listen to their records for hours on end.  Carole King’s Tapestry was always playing.  It was my introduction to one of my favourite albums of all time.

2. Inspirations Kate Bush, Sarah McLachlan, Katie Noonan and Kate Miller-Heidke are my favourite singer/songwriters.  I take a lot of inspiration from each one of them.  I remember listening to Sarah McLachlan’s Afterglow in 2003 when it was released, and feeling so moved by the sheer honesty and depth of her lyrics.  It was at that point I knew I wanted to make it my quest to write with that level of vulnerability.

3. Your Music I’m Not Sorry was recorded by Greg Williams up in Tamworth at the Lindsay Butler Studios. It was later remixed and mastered by Trevor Carter at Studio 52 in Collingwood. Greg did an excellent country style recording of the song, while Trevor added a touch of folk with a flute to create an indie folk/country style.  My live shows are very stripped-back compared to my recordings. It’s mainly digital piano and vocals with a session guitarist or violinist featured on some songs.

4. Your Show The launch is to mark the official release of my newest single I’m Not Sorry which was co-written with my friend (and young adult fiction writer) Nick Duhigg. I decided to hold a launch as it’s the first collaboration I’ve done and I feel really good about it. I will be playing the digital piano for most of the set and ending the last two numbers with special guest guitarist Jamie Armstrong.
