The extraordinary works of the 2023 Footscray Art Prize prize winners, finalists and Young Artists Prize entrants adorn walls, floors and subterranean spaces in a sitewide takeover of Footscray Community Arts until Sunday 17 September.

A celebration of outstanding multidisciplinary art, the Footscray Art Prize exhibition features over 150 contemporary artworks across various platforms and disciplines. Among those works on the display is the $20,000 Main Prize winning work, artist Roberta Joy Rich’s powerful multi-layered video installation, Though Buried, They Echo which is positioned beneath the gallery floor.

Other prizewinning works on display include The Big Build by needlepoint artist Jessie Deane, which documents the West Gate Tunnel build and Salon Gâr by Ammar Yonis a rich 35mm film photograph on silk depicting a contrasting opulent interior with contemporary friendship.
Winner of the Residency Artist Prize Abbra Kotlarczyk’s Bridgehead (de)composition/Sweating the impurities, which honours her grandfather’s enforced labours as a stone mason during WWII and the works of Young Artists Prize winners Grace Nguyen and secondary school student Jadyn Gregorio also form part of the exhibition.
