Fitzroy’s beloved Indian eatery, Mukka, is coming out of lockdown as colourful as ever

Words by Eva Marchingo

Mukka continues to adapt and shapeshift with the times.

Brunswick Street’s Indian eatery, Mukka, has come out of lockdown as colourful as ever. The family-owned and run restaurant has championed authentic and nostalgic Indian cuisine since it first opened in 2016.

They kept us well-fed with ‘Isolation Thalis’ at home during the lockdown period, and now we can enjoy their delicious food in Mukka’s iconic and vibrant space.

With warmer weather edging nearer, there’s nothing quite like a lassi from Mukka to quench your thirst. If you’re after something a little sweeter, then their iconic Indian-inspired cocktails will certainly be up your alley.

Reopening the restaurant to dine-in customers has also brought back Mukka’s delicious dosas – through their classic, chicken curry or smoky eggplant and pea variety, it’s time to get reacquainted with the Mukka favourite. And it won’t matter if you’re dining in or taking away, everyone’s favourite Gulab Jamun is available either way.

While there is reduced indoor seating because of the current density limitations, Mukka has increased their outdoor capacity and boosted their footpath trading by creating a parklet at the front of the restaurant which will perfect for the warm balmy nights coming up.

They’ve also introduced another new initiative through their ‘Extreme Delivery’ option. Mukka is now delivering up to 12 kilometres on pre-orders, that’s twice the distance many of us are used to travelling these days.

Mukka is open for dining in from 5pm to 9:30pm, Tuesday through Sunday. Take away and delivery are available from 5pm to 9:30pm, Monday to Friday, and a little bit earlier on the weekends, from 4pm to 9:30pm.
