Finalists for Melbourne Prize for Music 2010 Announced‏

The Melbourne Prize Trusts have announced the finalists to contend for the 2010 Melbourne awards.

The 2010 installment of the Melbourne Prize for Music has been announced with the nominees for the three awards.

The winner of the Melbourne Prize for Music 2010 will receive $60,000 and will come from the category of a ‘Victorian professional musician, or group of musicians, whose body of work has made an outstanding contribution to Australian music and has enriched cultural and public life’.

The finalists for the Melbourne Prize for Music 2010 are:

Brett Dean
David Jones
Paul Kelly
Archie Roach
Australian Art Orchestra

The Outstanding Musicians Award recipient for 2010 will receive $30,000 as a recognition of their ‘recent work of a Victorian professional musician, or group of musicians, which is an outstanding example of creativity and skill’. 

The finalists for the Outstanding Musicians Award 2010 are:

Vanessa Amorosi
Calvin Bowman
Hamish and Lachlan Davidson
Anna Goldsworthy
Slava Grigoryan
Zulya Kamalova
Lisa Mitchell
Benjamin Northey
The Flinders Quartet
Erkki Veltheim

And finally the recipient of the 2010 Development Award will receive a $13,000 reword in recognition of their talents as ‘an emerging musician, or group of musicians, who demonstrate outstanding musical talent’.

The finalists for the Development Award 2010 are:
Sam Anning
Natalie Bartsch
Susan Hull
Megan Washington
Eugene Ughetti

A free public exhibition of all finalists will be held in the Atrium at Federation Square, the Trust’s exhibition and event partner, between 8 and 22 November 2010. Award recipients will be announced on www.melbourneprizetrust.org on 10 November.
