Melbourne Symphony Orchestra have just released new, final seats to their live performance of the 'Toy Story' score, accompanied by a screening of the film, at Hamer Hall on Saturday April 30.

The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra are performing the score of Toy Story live, accompanied by a screening of the 1995 animated Pixar classic. A true cultural staple, the MSO’s performance celebrates the work of Oscar and Grammy award winning composer Randy Newman.

Randy Newman’s score for the film was nominated for Best Original Score at that year’s Oscars, with “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” by Newman being nominated for Best Original Song.

Newman, inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2002, is known for his loveable Southern-accented style and brings a characteristic joy to the score of Toy Story. “His songs are touching, witty, and satirical, and he would deliver the emotional underpinning for every scene,” states director John Lasseter to Entertainment Weekly on Newman’s work.

Released in 1995, Toy Story was the first entirely CGI animated film and follows the lives of toys who come to life when humans are not around. Featuring voice work from an all-star cast of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Wallace Shawn, John Ratzenberger and more, Toy Story is a classic that has defined the childhoods of many. Declared “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”, Toy Story was admitted into the National Film Registry in 2005, and is the first of a franchise of films, as well as being Pixar’s first film.

Toy Story in Concert takes place at Hamer Hall. Shows are 7:30pm on Friday April 29, 1:00pm and 7:30pm on April 30. Tickets are selling fast to all shows, so grab them here.
