Melbourne artist Felix Riebl plays his new album Everyday Amen live in Elisabeth Murdoch Hall.
Felix Riebl (The Cat Empire, Spinifex Gum) has found comfort in chaotic spaces, performing to sold-out stadiums across the world and in small domestic moments whilst surrounded by family and friends. His performance in Elisabeth Murdoch Hall presents his new album Everyday Amen with a full live band. Celebrating magic in the mundane, the works range from raw to near orchestral.
Drawing on evocative and colourfully haunting imagery that has been mentally sketched from a previous time and place – Hamburg, Cuba, Apollo Bay – the works evolved from fragments of memory. A celebration of the extrovert and introvert in Felix, each song details the wonder and obscurities of life with joy and exuberance. A performance that centres community, collaboration and craftmanship not to be missed.
‘Recording Everyday Amen was one of the most free-flowing and exciting experiences of my musical life. There’s a huge dynamic range within the songs, from the orchestral to the rhythmically bombastic, to the subtle and intimate. From that place the music seems to celebrate the outward facing, international journey I’ve been on, as well as the internal, everyday domestic life I lead, both in search of something sublime.’ – Felix Riebl
