Federation Square’s southern building will be demolished and replaced with a flagship Apple store, under a plan that’s been in the works for over a year.
The two-storey Apple concept store will be the first in the Southern Hemisphere, and one of only six worldwide.
Once constructed, it will replace the three-storey Yarra building which was conceived after an international design competition was launched to find new ideas. In the years following, Federation Square won numerous major architectural and design awards.
Here’s what people are saying about it:
The new Apple store replacing the Yarra building at Fed Square is radically different architecture and converts cultural/civic space to commercial. And despite this being a public centre, the changes to the planning scheme have already been approved without any public process. pic.twitter.com/9JkfjRGgiL

Not one person I have talked to in Fed Square so far likes the idea of the Apple super store
