I Come From A Band Down Under: what has caused the overseas breakthrough of acts like Vance Joy, Sheppard, Kimbra, The Jezabels and Gotye, and how can other Australian musicians follow suit?

Focus on The Living End: presented by APRA AMCOS the three members of The Living End along with their long time manager Rae Harvey, discuss their songwriting, stories behind the songs, the highs and lows of their journey, and what is in store as they start work on album #7.

Splendour Forum Debate: “Will there ever be another Elvis?” (Dylan/Madonna/Nirvana/The Beatles/insert global trailblazing artist name here). Can anything as new or revolutionary happen in contemporary music? Can today’s big names have the same cultural impact? Or have the longevity? Discussing these are Pinky Beecroft, Cherry Bomb author Jenny Valentish, publicist Chrissie Vincent, writers Marcus Teague and Jess McGuire and R.I.P Society’s Nic Warnock.

Workshops will be conducted by Kirin J Callinan, (on guitar sounds), Gossling, Nai Palm (Hiatus Kaiyote), Tommy Spender, Oscar Key Sung, Alex Akers (Forces), Pip Norman, Matt Ridgway (Winterpark), MoMO (Diafrix), Tim Shiel (Faux Pas, Gotye) and Joelistics. To register, head to facethemusic.com.au.

This year’s APRA AMCOS songwriting masterclass is presented by Nai Palm of Hiatus Kaiyote. The vocalist, guitarist and chief songwriter for the Grammy Award-nominated band, can count Erykah Badu, Prince and The Roots as fans of her work.

Yamaha presents Gossling in a Q&A with emerging artists to discuss songwriting, touring tips and how to build a support team

Ross Irwin (Cat Empire/Bamboos) whose arranging and performing skills you can hear on recordings by Josh Pyke, Vance Joy and Paul Kelly, talks through his approach to strings and horn arranging in a session sponsored by Arts Centre Melbourne.

The latest round of speakers include Frank Rodi (APRA AMCOS), Daniel Nevin (AIR), Damian Cunningham (National Live Music Office), Mikey Cahill (Herald Sun), Nicholas Jones (Tone Deaf), Hazel Savage (Pandora), Karen Conrad (Karen Conrad Publicity), Martin Boulton (The Age), Natalie Dodds (freelance publicist), Ross Irwin (musician), Ellen Kirk (Bolster Music), Ian Whitney (Australia Council) and music lawyers David Vodicka, Moira McKenzie, Sean Mullins, Yasmin Naghavi, Darren Sanicki and Katie Besgrove.

Face The Music is held at Arts Centre Melbourne on Friday November 14 and Saturday November 15.
