Extrawelt @ Brown Alley

German techno titans Extrawelt transformed Brown Alley into a scene straight out of a Berlin warehouse party with their hypnotic Electric Owl performance on Friday night. The duo’s two-hour live set took the crowd on a mesmerizing journey into a techno wonderland ahead of their upcoming headlining performance at Strawberry Fields.

Another highly anticipated Strawberry act, Phaeleh, opened up the night with a cinematic set of kick-on worthy proportions. The Bristol producer effortlessly built upon his lush soundscapes, gradually picking up the BPM so that it was right where it needed to be for Extrawelt to take the decks.

From the first ominous synth howl, it was clear that the pair came all the way from Hamburg to deliver their intense brand of techno in a big way. The recently released Windschatten proved to be absolutely possessive, sending the crowd into an all-out stomp. While Extrawelt was able to fluently work in their new material, it was the re-edits of their well-known tracks that should have made leaving the dance floor a criminal offense. Their rework of 2006’s Titelheld was a prime example of this mastery, making it easily the biggest song of the night. The pair wrapped up their spell-binding set around 3.30am with encore track Breedle, a fitting conclusion to a sublime night of some of the tastiest beats that Germany has to offer.
