If you like the idea of Moonlight Cinema but not the box office flicks they show then take a lookie here. Blow Up Cinema presents Buena Vista Social Club at Gasworks Arts Park.
Buena Vista Social Club is the film that charts the making of the album of the same name by Cuban musician Juan Marcos Gonzalez and American guitarist Ry Cooder along with a cast of talented Cuban musicians. The film by Win Weder follows the making of the album, following those involved with the album with an ever present camera, from not just the studios and clubs, but right into their homes and family lives.
Buena Vista Social Club is showing this Saturday, March 12 at Gasworks Arts Park, corner Graham and Pickles St, Albert Park. Tickets are $17 for adults and $15 for concession and cyclists. Dogs on the other hand are free.
And if you’re not feeling the Cuban rhythms and love Abbotsford Convent is showing the Carol Reed directed, film-noir The Third Man, starring Joseph Cotton and Orson Welles. Set in post-war Vienna it follows out of work novelist Holly Martins ( Joseph Cotton), as he delves into the world of the black market and discovers the truth about the death of his friend (Orson Welles of course).
The Third Man screens on Thursday March 17 at The Abbotsford Convent, 1 St Helliers St, Abbotsford. All tickets are $15. Tickets for both films are available at Blow Up Cinema and at the venue.
