Over the years, Everything Everything has been compared to Radiohead so many times it’s not funny. On their latest album On A Fever Dream however, they stand up on their own,
showcasing far more pop sensibilities than Radiohead ever have. On Big Game, heavy electric guitar greets the end of the chorus vocal line, which is a little reminiscent of Royal Blood and sure to be a hit at future shows.
One of the highlights across the 11 tracks is Good Shot, Good Soldier, whichfeatures the combination of an electronic drum beat with a hint of vocal that is reminiscent of their previous track Cough Cough. It’s easy to picture Good Shot as the soundtrack to a late afternoon summer festival as the sun sets.
Pushing the sound of the band in a different direction from 2015’s Get To Heaven, on this release these songs are swamped in heavy electronic passages that are contrasted by sweeping string arrangements. The vocals of Jonathan Higgs sound as good as they ever have especially on the six-minute title track. With so many layers of sound however, it will be intriguing to see how these guys replicate this album live.
