The best alcohol delivery services in Melbourne, ranked

Alcohol delivery Melbourne
Words by Ben Lamb

Our crack team of chronic alcoholics rank every alcohol delivery service in Melbourne on range, price and delivery time.

Imagine the scenario: you’ve got some mates around, enjoying the (hopefully soon-to-be) warm weather, and looking forward to enjoying a beer or seven. You open the fridge and you’re faced with the sight of empty shelves. What do you do? Thank god we’re not in the bad old days where you have to stumble down to the bottle-o anymore – there is an amazing range of alcohol delivery in Melbourne to get drinks to your door faster than you can slur Dan Murphy’s.

Today we’re discovering and rating all the alcohol delivery services in Melbourne, diving into the coolest products they’ve got on offer, and the services that can get you drunk tonight, on a Thursday no less. We’ll be rating each alcohol delivery service on three criteria:

Alcohol delivery services in Melbourne

  • Range: Can you get drinks here that aren’t available anywhere else?
  • Price: Are the products priced competitively?
  • Delivery: What’s the delivery time and cost like?

So, let’s get into it with the worst first.

You can also check out Melbourne’s most comprehensive guides to the best bars and pubs in each suburb and street here.

Amazon

Range: If you need anything from a plunger to a blanket, Amazon’s a one-stop shop, but when it comes to alcohol delivery in Melbourne…things may be considered rather limited. You’ll only be able to find a few varieties of each alcohol. But Amazon is always growing, so keep an eye on the app and you’ll see regular product line expansions.

Price: You won’t be finding many bargains on the drink side of things here; their limited range is usually priced around the same as many other drink sellers out there. For example, you can grab a slab of Budweiser from Amazon for $50, the same price as Dan’s and Liquorland.

Delivery: If you’re a Prime Member, you won’t be spending a cent on delivery, and can get products delivered in a few days.

Uber Eats

Range: Uber Eats will tend to find small bottle shops like IGA Liquor and Liquorland, which means compared to services specialising in alcohol delivery in Melbourne, they offer customers a limited range.

Price: This is one of the service’s biggest downfalls, as is the case with a lot of Uber Eats shops, there will be a price markup or two. But if you’re only grabbing a six pack, it won’t be too bad.

Delivery: Another big downfall of Uber Eats is the high cost of delivery, there’ll be a $4 – $5 flat fee added to your order, but you’ll get it quite quickly.

Wine Selectors

Range: As the name suggests, this online Melbourne alcohol delivery store focuses on all things wine. There’s a range of grape juice from a number of the best wine regions in the world.

Price: Like all good wine sellers, there’s a huge variety of prices at Wine Selectors, starting from a few bucks to a few hundred dollars. Being in the online space, there’s always a bunch of promo codes floating around on Wine Selectors, you can easily get your drinks for a little bit cheaper.

Delivery: Wine Selectors charge a whopping $15 for postage, so you may want to make sure you’re stocked up with a bunch of wines before you head to your cart and check out.

Liquoroo

Range: Liquoroo seems to be a newer player in the Melbourne alcohol delivery market, so there isn’t a massive range just yet, but you’ll be able to find something up your alley. There are a few different beers, wines and spirits available.

Price: Things are priced pretty competitively; you won’t be having to spend a lot to down drinks from this spot. Liquroo’s drinks include a slab of Asahi for $67.95 and a six-pack of Coronas for $22 the same sort of prices you’d see at other Alcohol shops across Melbourne.

Delivery: Delivery costs start around $5 and will depend on the distance travelled. You also need to reach a minimum order for delivery too, which is currently sitting at $20.

Boozeit

Range: Boozeit have a great range of alcohol for all your drinking needs, there’s great selections under beer, wine, cider and spirits.

Price: If you’re looking for a cheap fix, you can get away with spending an easy $20 to $30 for a few tinnies of your favourite brew. Then on the higher end of things, you can grab classy spirits for a few hundred bucks.

Delivery: One of the biggest negatives of Boozeit are their approach to prices and timeframes for alcohol delivery in Melbourne, it’s more on the expensive side, you’re looking at around $13 for your delivery, and it’ll take a few business days. Or if you spend over $200, you’ll get free shipping.

Boozehouse

Range: Boozehouse is one of the newer spots on this list, and they feature a a great range of drinks, you’re bound to find a bev or two that will be up your alley. They’re focused on showcasing lesser-known drinks too, if there’s that bottle of something you haven’t been able to find anywhere else, you can probably grab it at Boozehouse.

Price: This is where Boozehouse really sit apart from the pack, you’ll be saving a bit of money during a shop here, for example, there’s a Hendricks Limited Edition Gin on offer at Boozehouse for $95, and from any other shop, you’ll be spending well over $100.

Delivery: Perhaps the biggest downfall of Boozehouse is their alcohol delivery to Melbourne, they’re a South Australian business, so will only deliver to Melbourne between one and three business days.

Boozebud

Range: Now one for all the beer lovers out there, Boozebud brings the weird, wacky and wonderful brews from all corners of the earth. There’s not just beer either, you can grab wine, spirits, premixes, and much more.

Price: There’s a large range of drinks available, so you can look at prices from a couple of bucks for a can to around $30-$40 for a bottle.

Delivery: The prices and times for their alcohol delivery in Melbourne could be considered a bit high. Depending on where you live, it costs around $10 no matter what you buy, and will take a few business days to reach you. So if you want to get the most value out of Boozebud, it may be worth grabbing a few slabs.

Tipple

Range: Tipple have a cool range of beer wine and premixes, there’s a few choices that you probably won’t be able to find at your local. There are a few cool deals you can grab here too, including a chip and beer combo for $25. The website does favour smaller orders of drinks, so Tipple maybe isn’t the best choice if you need a slab or two.

Price: Usually for a six pack of beer, you’re looking between $20 – $30. For example, you can grab a six pack of Furphy from Tipple for $21, the same price as most other Furphy stockists. In Tipple’s world of wine, you can grab high quality drops from around $12.99.

Delivery: Once again, delivery is where this service falls short, for $7.95, you can choose the time and day of your delivery, so if you’ve got mates coming around on a specific day, it actually works well.

BWS

Range: BWS is one of the big four when it comes to brick-and-mortar alcohol selling, but is worth noting when it comes to the world of delivery. Their range isn’t anything super special, you won’t find weird craft brews or international wines, but they’ve got every classic you need.

Price: The prices here are standard too, you won’t be spending too much on whatever you’re into.

Delivery: BWS are still developing their delivery approach, currently, for $10, you can get your drinks delivered in around an hour. More specific information about delivery can be found on their courier page here.

Get Wines Direct

Range: As the name suggests, Get Wines Direct are dedicated to providing Melburnians will all things wine. There’s a bit of everything across Reds, Whites, Sparklings, and a bunch of rare drops.

Price: It’s one of the most affordable online sellers, with prices starting from only $5.99 per bottle.

Delivery: As seems to be the case with these lower rated services, delivery is the downfall, there’ll be a $9.95 flat rate per order. So it’s probably not worth grabbing a few cheap bottles, Get Wines Direct is best for a big haul of alcoholic grape juice.

Mr Consistent

Range: For cocktail lovers, Mr Consistent is an Australian provider of the ingredients to DIY it. They don’t sell the alcohol needed for your favourite cocktails, but everything else needed for all your cocktailing needs.

Price: It definitely sits up the more expensive end of cocktail mixers, around $30 a bottle, but you’ll be paying for the high quality rather than chucking a few bucks on something that’ll end up down the drain.

Delivery: It isn’t the cheapest, for $9, you can get it delivered within a few days.

Dan Murphy’s

Range: Everyone’s favourite local drink emporium is slowly moving into the delivery world, bringing their stacked and broad website to many customers online. There’s a big selection of wines, spirits and beers available, from Australia and abroad.

Price: If you’ve ever been to a Dan Murphy’s before, you know the prices, if you’re a member, you can grab a few cheap deals here and there. There’s everything from a can of beer for a couple of bucks to a bottle of wine for close to thousands.

Delivery: No matter what your delivery needs are, Dan Murphy’s has something up your alley. If you need it in two hours, or you need it Next Tuesday at 4pm, the Dan Murphy’s delivery service will be able to fit you needs.

Hellodrinks

Range: Hellodrinks feature a large range of drinks of all shapes and sizes, their front page of their website alone lists pretty much every variety of alcohol under the sun. Their stacked catalogue makes up for their shortcomings in other areas.

Price: Products at Hellodrinks are slightly more expensive than that of other spots, for example, a 700ml bottle of Gordon’s Pink Gin is $60 at Hellodrinks, compared to around $48 elsewhere.

Delivery: Delivery is around $12, and will take a few business days, but if you join up to Hellodrinks’ membership club, you can grab discounts on drinks when you reach a minimum spend / get deals on drinks.
