European trash, garage and gogo fest The Wild Weekend is coming to Melbourne for its Australian debut this New Year's Eve.
A Halloween-themed weekender spread over three days, The Wild Weekend is instead hitting Melbourne over New Year’s Eve, with three events across multiple venues from December 31, 2021 until January 1, 2022.
Featuring garage and punk acts like Straight Arrows, The Unknowns, Drop Ofs, The Black Widows and The Human Flies, the organisers are throwing a ‘Mad Monster Party’ for New Year’s Eve at LuWow tiki bar, then holding a boat cruise “to nowhere”, a cabaret and an after-party at Cherry Bar by January 2.

The Wild Weekend started in London in 1998 then moved to Spain (via Las Vegas Grind) with the organisers holding it in Mallorca last year, but settling for Melbourne this time around due to COVID restrictions.
It’s seriously over the top, but as one of the first of its kind, has managed to blaze a trail for other trash festivals across the world.
“A kreepy and kooky fuzzed-out fiesta….three days of monstrous mayhem,” the organisers describe.
“The Wild Weekend of retro fuzz, crazy costumes parties and vinyl throwbacks….get set to twist, stomp and scream the night away. Featuring a mix of 60s Garage Grime, Sloppy Surf, Rancid Rhythm’n’Blues, Screamin Soul, Mad Mod, Badass Boogaloo, Las Vegas Grind and Frat Fuzz.”
