Clem Bastow’s Escape from L.A. is a hilarious and self-deprecating hour of comedy.
With dreams of becoming a screenwriter at a young age, Bastow, with a press visa in hand, finally moves to East L.A. in 2012 to work on this dream. However, L.A. can be a cruel mistress and what the audience is treated to is a very funny account of life in L.A. as a struggling screenwriter. From experiences with Steven Spielberg, to the insanity of Hollywood Boulevard, to the realisation that half of Hollywood is a struggling screenwriter sitting in Starbucks, Bastow tells her tales with a refreshing honesty and rawness. She is not here to sugar-coat life in Hollywood; rather her story serves as an fascinating account of what Hollywood has to offer someone with stars in their eyes and covers the good, the bad, the ugly and the downright funny aspects of life in Hollywood.
With her weird Hollywood friend DJ Slig (Atticus Bastow in a gas mask) operating sound and causing havoc with a variety of over-the-top sound effects, Escape from L.A. is chaotic, messy and a ridiculous amount of fun.
